Information Technology Consultant - Job Description

We are looking for an experienced IT Consultant to join a small and growing Technology Consulting company. A good fit for this position will have superb Client Relationship Skills and is as comfortable interacting with Business Owners and C level executives as they are with business end users and managers.
It is necessary to have superior client engagement skills including the ability to do needs analysis, develop written client proposals, set up, manage, and deliver IT projects, and handle all client communication professionally and in a timely manner.
Responsibilities would be to:

Provide high quality support in a technical environment that includes Windows environment, networking and data communications

Provide systems integration with internal and third party systems

Design and support of the LAN/WAN Area Network systems

Monitor network resources for performance, auditing and security of routers, servers and network equipment, to ensure integrity and security of computer data.

Troubleshoot hardware and software problems; work in conjunction with 3rd party

Handle end-user technical support calls and provide higher technical support and troubleshooting

Communicate with users and co-workers clearly, concisely and politely

Finally, strong technical skills in the following areas are necessary:

You must be able to learn and implement new technologies quickly.
Experience with design, setup, and support of Windows 2003 servers environment.
Windows 2000 and 2003 Server experience in a Small Business or Multi-site Windows Enterprise environment including AD Design and Implementation, Group Policy Design and Implementation, and Server design, setup, configuration, and implementation. Linux server experience is a plus, but not required. Experience with network migrations is also desired but not required.
Experience with designing, setting up, configuring, and supporting Exchange 2000 and 2003 is required and knowledge of SMTP, POP3, and IMAP protocols, routing, and server configuration is necessary. Other messaging experience is desirable, but is not required.
Experience designing a solution for, setting up and configuring firewalls using one of the following products is required: Netscreen, Watchguard, Sonicwall, Microsoft ISA or Pix. IP tables/IP filter or Linux Firewall experience is also desirable but not necessary.
Experience with Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 Terminal Server Design, Setup, Configuration and Support is required as is familiarity with Remote Desktop. Experience with VNC, and any other Remote Desktop products are also desirable. Strong network WAN and LAN design, setup, configuration, and support is required including common network services and utilities such as DNS, DHCP, and WINS. Essential skills include designing the end user environment in a network environment; including design, setup, and configuration for file and print servers.
Additionally, knowledge of common network commands, utilities, and ports and protocols for common applications is required.
Experience creating network management scripts either with Batch Files, Kix or Kix32 scripts, Perl scripts, or other scripting tools for administrative purposes is highly desirable.
Must have strong knowledge in the following technologies:
3Com Network, F5, HP Switches, Juniper, Microsoft Virtual Server
Multi-site and Multi-domain Windows Environment
Load-balanced environment
Cisco, Foundry, or Extreme Switching
VMWare or Virtual Server
Borderware, F5 LB and Firepass, Teneros, Fortinet, ESX,
Setting up VPNs,
SQL Cluster support & setup experience


Job Requirements
Must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer related field or 5+ years experience in System Administration
Considerable knowledge and understanding of Computer Systems, Network Systems, Telecommunications Systems, File and Data Management Systems
Knowledge of a wide variety of computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment
Comprehensive knowledge of departmental operations
Extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN design and implementation. This includes methods of communicating serves in the network, remote access configurations, communication equipment, connecting shared network devices, etc.

Personally you should be friendly and easy to work with, comfortable communicating with C level executives or end users. You should be able to think on your feet, able to resolve problems, research solutions, follow guidance, have true troubleshooting experience, and champion your own ideas. Finally Strong Vendor management is required.
