Job Duties/Responsibilities
Analyze complex project requirements and determine technical approach and programming required. Design, implement and test GUI for WatchGuard applications using Java and Web 2.0 technologies. Identify and solve performance and scalability issues involving large data sets. Constructively weigh and integrate feedback from Product designers, GUI designers and customers. Create prototypes and functional specifications for WatchGuard projects. Propose optimized solutions for project implementation. Develop program code per specifications and according to WatchGuard standards. Perform product design, bug verification, release testing, and beta support on software projects which may require research and analysis. Help on the maintenance of released software as required. Participate in team/individual goal setting. Work on problems of diverse scope. Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Interact with other component owners and developers in all phases of product development from initial study to final release. Clearly communicate technical information and instructions to non-technical staff and managers.

Position Charter & Experience

Performs product development, design, bug verification, release testing, and beta support on applications software projects which may require research and analysis. This person will develop the User Interface/User Experience for Vertafore applications and related products by designing and coding according to standards and styles. May assist in performing on-site client work. Operates under moderate supervision.

Key Accountabilities

Software Engineer position responsibilities include:
  • Performs User Interface design, product development, design, system analysis, and programming activities on applications software which may require some research
  • Performs design, implementation and maintenance of UI design, single product modules/sub-systems or on lower level issues of multiple products
  • Interface with analysts and developers to design page layouts and graphics that adhere to design guidelines
  • Design end user interfaces that focus on designs that are clear, effective and pleasing to the eye
  • Work independently to document specifications that development will reference to implement final end user interface design
  • Develop and refine design concepts and produce prototypes for evaluations
  • Prepares technical documentation of product sub-systems
  • Conducts the unit testing and integration testing for functionality and limits
  • Performs bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products

Professional and Technical Competencies
  • Must have experience designing consumer oriented user interfaces for web applications
  • Strong visual design skills with proficiency at screen layouts

  • A solid understanding of business goals with the ability to translate themes into designs

  • Experience with Java and/or.net / C# development.  Java development is preferred.
  • Experience with Java server technologies – experience with Struts, ORM (Hibernate/JDO/custom persistence frameworks), and Spring is a plus.
  • Proficiency with related technologies, including SQL databases (Oracle), HTML, JSP, Tag Libraries, JavaScript, AJAX, XML, and Web Services is a plus
  • General technical knowledge in software development methodologies, design and implementation
  • General awareness of business issues as they impact overall project plans

Experience
  • Requires two years of development experience designing products
Education Requirements
  • A Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering (or related technical discipline), or equivalent work experience is required.

We need world class software engineers who want to design and build cutting edge business applications employing the latest technologies. Our projects include working on advanced web based applications for business collaboration, complex loan transactions and financial marketplaces.
