Android app for rev share – using existing API (Seattle)

Posted by webmaster@craigslist.org on August 5, 2010

Are you thinking about developing an Android app but haven't hit on a concept that you wanted to run with? Or maybe you've built a couple apps and want to try something with broader commercial appeal? If so, this might be the project for you.We have a very deep and robust social media REST API and want to create a consumer-facing experience for Android devices. This will involve:
--Writing specified user activities on the handset to the API, creating an activity stream
--Extracting friends' activities via the API for display on the handset

UI to include:
--Sign-in using facebook
--Music and video player(s) capable of writing certain event data to the API. This could be open source.
--Activity monitor displaying activity in the friend network. Graphical, something like iTunes Cover Flow. Auto-refresh. Click to play.
--Other pieces as necessary

There is an extensive web site and documentation you can use for reference. No need to futz around trying to figure out how things should work. You'll more or less be creating a simpler version of the web site for the handset. We are hardcore about constraining scope.

Step one is a presentable consumer prototype. When we're happy with it we can invest in graphics, animation, branding, etc. If you see it through you can expect to do some other odds and ends like posting to the app store, etc. You will use our existing systems for source control and bug tracking.

If you have experience creating Android apps you can exploit the API to deliver the prototype quickly. We want you to be the thought leader who shows us the way. If you stumble and grope we'll have to cut it off. We will compensate only for work actually used in products actually released in the App Store, as a percentage of net revenue (net means after Google takes its cut).

You will be required to sign NDA to get access to the API. There's no porn or other weirdness about it. You can be the producer of a very powerful Android app without having to write all the logic or services or manage the hosting. It's a cool opportunity for the right person, hopefully that's you! In responding, please indicate your relevant experience and/or attach a resume. Thank you.
